Singer-songwriter Lauren Daigle has been a staple in the Christian music scene since her debut EP How Can It Be in 2014. Now, three years later, her reach continues to grow, and it shows, as she’s garnered multiple nominations at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards.

“I was shocked!” Daigle tells Billboard about learning she was nominated. “When it comes to awards and things like that -- I don’t know why -- I just always sit in amazement and never really expect it.”

“To even be nominated last year,” she continues, “I was blown away. And now, to not only be nominated again, but to have three? Like, what in the world? This is just wild!”

The Louisiana native is a triple-threat at this year’s show, with nominations for Top Christian Artist, Top Christian Song for “Trust in You,” and Top Christian Album with How Can It Be.

Her premiere EP was expanded into a full-length album in 2015, and though it’s still amassing praise and new fans, Daigle is eager to share some new music.

“It’s about time I release a second record,” she says. “So we’re actually in the writing process right now, and we’re planning to have it all done by the end of the year so that we can put out a record for next year.”

For now, she’s more than happy continuing touring and looking forward to Sunday’s festivities. As the show grows closer, Daigle’s excitement for the big night has even transcended to her dreams. “Last night -- we’re on tour, I’m in the bunk -- 5:30 rolls around and I just randomly woke up in my bunk,” explains Daigle, “and my first thought when I woke up was, ‘I wonder who’s performing at the Billboard Music Awards?’”

With her anticipation building, the singer already knows what will be the standout performance of the night in her eyes. “I think I’m most excited to see Celine Dion,” says Daigle. “And let me just say, she is genuinely one of the largest influences on me pursuing singing, ever! I can’t wait!”

The Billboard Music Awards air Sunday, May 21 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
