Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker speak onstage during the The 54th Annual CMA Awards at Nashville’s Music City Center on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020 in Nashville.

Co-hosts Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker sang Mac Davis’ classic “In the Ghetto” at the 54th Annual Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday (Nov. 11), honoring the late Songwriters Hall of Fame member.

McEntire and Rucker did the poignant song justice, harmonizing with ease as they turned it into a sweeping duet: “Well the world turns/ And a hungry little boy with a runny nose/ Plays in the street as the cold wind blows/ In the ghetto.”

The performance ended with a black-and-white photo of Davis -- who died on Sept. 29 at age 78 -- shown onscreen.

The duo will also release their arrangement of “In the Ghetto” to streaming services at 11:00 p.m. CT tonight, immediately following the show.

Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber, Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert and many more are also expected to take the stage tonight at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Keep checking back at throughout the evening for full CMAs coverage, and check out the full winners’ list here.
