Carrie Underwood receives CMT Artist of the Year award during a remote performance at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Oct. 16, 2019.

The CMT Music Awards bill themselves as “country music’s only entirely fan-voted awards show.”

Carrie Underwood, who has won 20 CMT Music Awards, more than any other artist, could receive two more awards this year. Her video for “Drinking Alone” is among 14 videos shortlisted for video of the year (an award she has won seven times) and nominated for female video of the year (an award she has also won seven times, including the last five years in a row).

Keith Urban, a three-time winner for video of the year, is also shortlisted in that category with “Polaroid.” The five finalists in that marquee category will be announced on Oct. 12. The finalists in CMT’s other seven categories were announced on Wednesday (Sept. 23).

Ashley McBryde, Dan + Shay, Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Combs, Sam Hunt and Thomas Rhett are this year’s top CMT nominees, with three nods each. Dan + Shay are looking to win duo video of the year for the third consecutive year.

The Chicks ended a long hiatus and landed their first CMT nomination since 2007. Tanya Tucker, who made a major comeback with her Grammy-winning album When I’m Livin’, received her first CMT nomination ever.

Numerous non-country artists, including Gwen Stefani, Justin Bieber, Nelly, Marshmello and Halsey, landed nominations for collabs they recorded with country stars.

Several acts, besides Underwood, that have been frequent winners in their categories are nominated again this year. Miranda Lambert, a five-time winner for female video of the year, is nominated for “Bluebird.” Lady A, a five-time winner for group video of the year, is nominated for “Champagne Night.” Florida Georgia Line, a four-time winner for duo video of the year, is nominated for “Blessings.” Little Big Town, a three-time winner for group video of the year is nominated for “Wine, Beer, Whiskey.”

The CMT Music Awards bill themselves as “country music’s only entirely fan-voted awards show.”  Voting is open now at vote.cmt.com and continues until Oct. 12.  The show is set to air Oct. 21 on CMT with a six-network simulcast across MTV, MTV2, Logo, Paramount Network, Pop TV and TV Land. Bowing to COVID-19 realities, this year’s show will consist of “outdoor performances in and around Music City,” according to a statement from CMT.

Select nominations were revealed on Instagram Reels by McBryde and Luke Bryan. See the announcement of video of the year, female video of the year, male video of the year, breakthrough video of the year nominations here.
