Ariana Grande has spent the last two years preaching the empowering gospel of Thank U, Next, so it's only fitting that she took the stage at the 2020 Grammy Awards on Sunday night (Jan. 26) to celebrate some of the most beloved tracks off the album that earned her five nominations.

The Politician star Ben Platt introduced Grande, and delighted in sharing a few words about "my beautiful pal" before her entrance: he hailed her "powerful, skillful, once in a generation voice," and emphasized how "when she sings, she really sings."

The lights came up ever so slightly to reveal Grande, in a black evening gown, surrounded by a small orchestra for a loungy spin on her Sweetener world tour set up. Opening with "Imagine," Grande was accompanied by warm, plucky strings -- an especially appropriate fit for "My Favorite Things," the Rodgers and Hammerstein Sound of Music classic she updated and reinterpreted for her own single, "7 Rings."

After indulging in a few verses of the original, Grande segued from her lounge act into a frilly and fluffy pajama party, with her changing from her evening gown into a frou-frou bathrobe and lingerie ensemble.

From there, Grande launched into "Thank U, Next": she sang through the transition a cappella and wrapped the performance by herself, rolling through a high riff before taking a ring off her ring finger, placing it in a box and sitting, content, with a satisfied but bittersweet smile.

Grande could still take home a Grammy at this year's ceremony: "7 Rings" is a contender for record of the year, and Thank U, Next is up for album of the year.
