Big Freedia Discusses Working With Icona Pop & Performing With Kesha at the AMAs

Big Freedia stopped to chat with Billboard’s Tetris Kelly on the red carpet at the 2019 American Music Awards on Sunday (Nov. 24), discussing her recent single with Icona Pop, working with Kesha, and much more.

Asked about her recent Icona Pop collaboration “Louder” and its accompanying colorful music video, Big Freedia tells Billboard that it was an amazing project to work on.

“I’m coming even louder now, like the single says,” she shares. “I wanted to do some fun stuff, and my creative directors for the video, they were very much in that creative space…fun, fruitful, and lots of joy.”

Big Freedia also chats about collaborating with Kesha on “Raising Hell” and performing the song during the AMAs event. “I’m so happy to be here with Kesha performing today at the AMAs,” she says. “We coming to raise hell. We’re friends and we collaborated and we made sure that we brought some heat for the people.”

In the interview, Big Freedia is also asked if she feels any pressure to change up her sound at all as she gets bigger as an artist. “If I’m just trying to get to different levels…and it takes levels to get to levels, and I just have to do what I have to do to keep on climbing the charts and getting where I need to be,” she replies.

Posed with the question of who she considers to be the artist of the decade, Big Freedia notes that she is an “old school kinda girl,” naming singers such as Kelly Price, Beyoncé, Fantasia, and Keke Wyatt as some of her favorite vocalists.
