When Maren Morris took home one of the biggest awards of the night at the 2019 CMA Awards on Wednesday (Nov. 13), she also created one of the most emotional moments of the evening with a tribute to the late producer Busbee.

Morris was awarded album of the year for her Top Country Albums chart-topping sopohomore LP, Girl, taking the stage alongside another one of her producers, Greg Kurstin. Choking back tears, Morris thanked her manager, parents, husband Ryan Hurd, Kurstin, and "Girl" co-writer Sarah Aarons, but then used the last moments of her heartfelt speech to pay tribute to Busbee.

"I would be really remiss if I didn't mention a huge facet of why this album sounds the way it does and we miss him so dearly," Morris said. "He texted me the morning we got the nomination for album of the year this year -- and we were so excited -- and that's our friend Busbee."

The singer then called out Busbee's wife, Jess, who was in the audience. "Thank you so much for sharing your husband with us once a month," Morris continued. "My heart just goes out to you and your beautiful daughters. I hope when they listen to this record or any of the songs that he made that made us all better, they know how amazing their father was."

Busbee passed away in September from glioblastoma after only being diagnosed with brain cancer a few months before. Morris was one of the many stars that paid tribute to the producer, who worked with artists in country and beyond, including Shakira and Adam Lambert.
