In the absence of Kris Kristofferson at Wednesday night's 2019 CMA Awards -- where he was honored with this year's Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award -- Sheryl Crow and Dierks Bentley led a rollicking performance of one of the most famous songs he co-wrote, "Me and Bobby McGee."

Made famous through a posthumously released recording by Janis Joplin, the song leaned in to a rock and roll sound, with some help from Eagles' Joe Walsh and John Osborne of Brothers Osborne on guitar, as well as Chris Janson on harmonica.

Crow has actually performed "Me and Bobby McGee" previously with Kristofferson, including for the 40th anniversary of Austin City Limits back in 2014. She also collaborated with Kristofferson on her August album release, Threads, on the song "Border Lord."

Kristofferson wasn't available to attend the awards show because he had a previously scheduled tour date in Iowa on Wednesday night.
