Sure, Ava Max is an American singer-songwriter, but considering her lyrically layered dance-pop breakthrough “Sweet but Psycho” has topped the charts of numerous European countries, it only made sense that the budding pop dynamo would hit the stage at the 2019 MTV EMAs in Seville, Spain.

Naturally, Max busted out “Psycho,” but she also performed current single “Torn,” demonstrating a vocal range and depth you might not know simply from hearing her on the radio. Wearing a blazing red gown set against the glowing white runway she was performing on, Ava used minimalist visual imagery to maximum effect at the EMAs.
