John Legend arrives at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Feb. 24, 2019 in Beverly Hills, Calif.

EGOT winner John Legend will host this year's Global Citizen Prize award ceremony that honors changemakers actively trying to end poverty locally while fostering social change globally. The ceremony will take place Dec. 13 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, replete with other notable presenters, musical collaborations and video packages.

For the first time since its inception in 2018, Global Citizen Prize will be recognized across the following five categories: Cisco Youth Leadership Award, Artist, World Leader, Business Leader and Global Citizen of the Year.

The Cisco Youth Leadership Award will honor one young individual between 18 and 30 years old “who has contributed meaningfully toward the goal of ending extreme poverty” through a specific organization, according to the press release. The Cisco-sponsored award will offer a $250,000 prize to the organization that the individual worked with to achieve this goal.

The Artist award will offer $150,000 to an individual or group “who uses their platform and their work to create change not only through conversation but meaningful impact,” as stated in the release.

The remaining accolades -- the Business Leader, the World Leader and the Global Citizen of the Year -- will honor people who have performed extraordinary work in their respective business, political and advocacy fields by achieving goals and policies dedicated to improving lives suffering from extreme poverty.

The televised ceremony will broadcast the following week, starting Dec. 20 at 8 p.m. on NBC in the United States and Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. on Sky TV in the United Kingdom. MSNBC will air the primetime special again in the U.S. Dec. 22 at 10 p.m. and re-air Dec. 31 at 11 p.m.

The Global Citizen Prize is produced by Global Citizen. The broadcast special is produced by London-based Whizz Kid Entertainment. Katherine Allen and Mark Sidaway serve as executive producers. Julia Knowles will direct.
