Introduced by his old friend Billy Ray Cyrus, rapper Lil Nas X took the stage for the first time at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday night (Aug. 26) to perform his "Old Town Road" follow-up single, "Panini."

Being a Lil Nas X performance, of course the performance had to be preceded by a faux news report poking fun at the endless reign of "Old Town Road" and its many remixes. North Carolina dancing newscaster Nick Kosir appeared in the pre-filmed clip to introduce "Remix #3162" of the song, featuring "Yung Sandwich, the Ghost of Benjamin, Megan Thee Stallion's Twerk Wind, My Mother and Old Thug."

Then, the 20-year-old sensation appeared in the middle of a TRON / Starlight Express hybrid setup, possibly previewing the upcoming video for the 7 single. The rapper (born Montero Hill) showcased dance moves we haven't really seen from him before, as the well-choreographed performance breezed by at a short two minutes.

Lil Nas X is nominated for eight VMAs at the 2019 ceremonies, including best new artist and video of the year (for "Old Town Road").
