Shawn Mendes was happiness personified during his first performance at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, and who can blame him? The man's got the No. 1 song in the country at the moment, and on top of that, he relished in the chance to perform not once but twice at the VMAs.

"Señorita," his collaboration with Camila Cabello, is currently sitting in the penthouse of the Hot 100 chart, and he'll sing that later on in the show -- but first, Mendes took to the stage with his guitar to belt through "If I Can't Have You," the single off his third album, Shawn Mendes, which he dropped in May.

The pop star is currently in the midst of his world tour, and you could tell: Mendes hit every sky-high note and worked additional falsetto runs into the song, flexing his range as mesmerizing visuals filled every one of the giant LED screens in Newark's Prudential Center.

Mendes is nominated for artist of the year, and "Señorita" is nominated for four, including best collaboration.
