Khalid Talks Success Of 'Free Spirit,' Friendship With Billie Eilish & Potential BTS Collaboration: Watch

Khalid spoke with Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs on the red carpet at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday (May 1), discussing the success of his new album Free Spirit, his friendship with Billie Eilish, and whether or not fans can expect a collaboration from him and BTS.

Speaking of his most recent LP Free Spirit, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200 chart, Khalid tells Billboard, “It’s a dream that you put into existence and you kind of hope for it, but the fact that it all gets to pay off and the fact that Free Spirit went No. 1, that’s bigger than me and it’s awesome and it’s an unbelievable experience, and it's just the start of 2019, so it’s gonna be a lot better.”

He next discusses his friend and collaborator Billie Eilish, who also saw her debut album debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. “We gotta give it up for Billie Eilish because she is killing it and she’s handling herself so well,” says Khalid.

“I’m just so proud of her because I know how hard her and Finneas, her mom and her dad, how hard they work and so it’s really good to see everything pay off in her favor,” he continues. “She’s a rockstar and I can’t wait to see her here next year sweeping every single thing, sweeping it all.”

In the interview, Khalid is also asked about the potential of a collaboration with BTS, to which he replies that there have “definitely been conversations.”

“I would love to,” he says. "It’s all about finding that perfect song and just enjoying that energy for what it is. Every time I see them, it’s nothing but love, it’s hugs and everything. I love them so much and I’m just so happy for their success, so even if it didn’t work out, I would still be a fan and I love them.”
