Imagine Dragons' Dan Reynolds Calls For Bans Against Conversion Therapy At 2019 BBMAs

After Imagine Dragons were named the winners of the top rock artist award at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, their activist frontman seized the opportunity to raise awareness of a pressing issue for the LGBTQ community.

Stepping onstage with his bandmates at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Dan Reynolds addressed the crowd about conversion therapy.

"There are still 34 states that have no laws banning conversation therapy," Reynolds said. "Fifty-four percent of our LGBTQ population live in those states."

Reynolds urged viewers to bring the issue up with state legislators in order to protect LGBTQ youth, pointing out that those subjected to conversion therapy to alter their sexual orientation and gender identity are far more likely to be effected by depression and suicide.

"It needs to change," he said.

The Imagine Dragons singer has been highly supportive of this and other related progressive causes in recent years.
