Brendon Urie of Panic! At the Disco Gets Key to Las Vegas

On Tuesday (April 30) in Las Vegas, Panic! at the Disco frontman Brendon Urie received the Key to the City, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in music.

Presented by Las Vegas Commissioner Jim Gibson, Urie was honored on the eve of his band’s two performances at the Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday (May 1) at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. The singer joins artists like Elvis Presley, Madonna and Britney Spears who received the honor before him.

Urie has celebrated his Vegas roots throughout his career, from recording the Grammy-nominated band’s Pretty.Odd. album at The Palms hotel to countless videos and photo shoots in his hometown.

Another fun connection between music and sports entertainment, the Las Vegas Golden Knights currently use Panic!’s “Vegas Lights” as their goal song.

Urie is giving back to his community as well, through his Highest Hopes Foundation. Partnering with State Farm and the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada, the organizations plan to break ground on a Youth Notes for Notes recording studio for local children, which will open later this year.

At this year’s Billboard Music Awards Urie will join Taylor Swift as the show’s opener, performing her new hit single “ME!” Panic! at the Disco will also play their latest track “Hey Look Ma, I Made It.”

BBMA executive producers Mark Bracco and Robert Deaton also received recognition for 20 consecutive years of the show broadcasting from Las Vegas. May 1, 2019, has been declared “Billboard Music Awards Day,” honoring the show with a “Billboard Music Awards Blvd.” street sign.

The 2019 Billboard Music Awards are set to air on NBC from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 1.
