John Legend speaks on stage during the 2018 E! People's Choice Awards held at the Barker Hangar on Nov. 11, 2018.

John Legend delivered an emotional rendition of U2's "Pride (In The Name of Love)" at the E! People's Choice Awards on Sunday (Nov. 11).

Legend opted for a simple performance, taking his place behind the piano in a black turtleneck and blazer, the crowd was overwhelmed with emotion, and the EGOT winner was given a standing ovation by the end of his performance.

The 39-year-old singer/songwriter also presented Brian Stevenson with the trophy for the people's champion award, recognizing Stevenson for his work as the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Ala. This theme of social justice is what inspired Legend to take on the appropriate U2 song, which outlines how the ones who relentlessly work towards a cause also end up sacrificing the most.

"Bryan, I've had the pleasure of learning from you and working alongside you and tonight it is my honor to present to you the 2018 People's Champion Award," the singer said.

Watch Legend's full rendition of "Pride (In The Name of Love) below. The full recap of the PCA will air tonight (Nov. 12) at 7:00 p.m. on E!.
