Luke Combs Talks ACM Win, Success Of 'Beautiful Crazy': Watch

Luke Combs caught up with Billboard’s Annie Reuter on the red carpet at the ACM Awards on Sunday (Apr. 7), discussing winning the new male artist of the year award, his love of Brooks & Dunn, and the success of his song “Beautiful Crazy.”

Combs, who learned that he won new male artist of the year ahead of the awards ceremony, tells Billboard that winning his first ACM feels great and that it takes a little bit of pressure off of having to perform twice later in the evening.

He also chats about Brooks & Dunn and how he had a small part in their reboot project. “We had been playing ‘Brand New Man’ forever in our show and it’s just something we always loved to do,” Combs says. “I guess eventually their manager ended up at one of my shows ‘cause he’s buddies with my manager and he saw it and I have this kind of gospel before we sing it of how much I love Brooks & Dunn and I think that kinda got the juices flowing a little bit…I don’t take all the credit, though!”

In the interview, Combs also opens up about his track “Beautiful Crazy,” which is currently at its seventh week at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

“It’s pretty crazy,” he states. “I never would’ve imagined it. It was two ACM’s ago – so it’s my third time – I didn’t even have a single out at radio and I was kinda just deer in the headlights, looking around, didn’t know what was going on and so this is a very welcome change of pace. It’s definitely something I’m not used to, but definitely something that’s great.”
