Lauren Alaina Says Winning New Female Vocalist ACM Award is 'Unbelievable': Watch

ACM award winner Lauren Alaina caught up with Billboard’s Kevan Kenney backstage at the 53rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards to chat about what the honor means to her.

The “Doin' Fine” singer, who took home the statuette for new female vocalist of the year, was given the prize by Jon Pardi ahead of the Sunday night (April 15) broadcast. “I really love Jon and I’ve known him for a long time,” she says. “When I did a radio tour forever ago I met Jon and he’s worked really hard for a really long time, and I think he won best new male last year…and I won best new female this year, and he gets to give me the award and he’s my buddy so it was a really special moment.”

"My mom was standing to the left and I brought my mom in and introduced her to him, which she was almost more excited about than me getting the award,” she jokes. “This whole trip has been unbelievable.”
