Bebe Rexha Dishes on Debut Album 'Expectations,' Reflects on Success of Florida Georgia Line Collab 'Meant to Be': Watch

Bebe Rexha swung by the red carpet at the 53rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday (April 15) to discuss what fans can expect from her debut album, her smash hit “Meant To Be” and the recent Women in Harmony dinner that she hosted.

Rexha, whose collaboration with Florida Georgia Line “Meant to Be” currently sits at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, jokes that while she would love to see the track top the chart, “if somebody could steal No. 1 from me, I’d let it be Drake.”

Discussing how the success of her country-tinged collaborative hit influenced her forthcoming LP Expectations, the singer shares that it is a very stripped-down album. “There’s different sides of me and what I love,” she says. “I went back to my roots, like I loved No Doubt and Alanis Morissette and Lauryn Hill and wrote these more real, honest songs and there’s a lot more guitar and I think ‘Meant to Be’ helped me see that you could have success with a record that’s just honest and raw. It doesn’t have to be hidden by 10 million sounds.”

As for why she decided to call the record Expectations, Rexha explains that she had certain expectations when she arrived in Los Angeles and pursued a career in music. “I thought money would bring me happiness and being famous would bring me happiness, but I find that…this wasn’t what I expected at all,” she tells Billboard. “It’s like the little things. It’s my family, it’s my mom, it’s my dog, it’s a cup of coffee in the morning.”

Rexha also chats about the Women in Harmony dinner that she organized back in February, which was attended by the likes of Kelsea Ballerini, Julianne Hough, Avril Lavigne, Charli XCX, JoJo and Kim Petras.

“I wanted the younger generation to come together, 'cause sometimes we’re like kind of put against each other and competitive, and I don’t want that in the female part of the business,” Rexha says. “I want us to uplift each other and support each other and make room for other females.”
