A medical issue could take Crystal Bowersox out of "American Idol."

"Idol" executive producer Ken Warwick told host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Wednesday morning that if the 24-year-old dreadlocked singer from Toledo, Ohio, doesn't sing for viewer votes Wednesday, then only one female semifinalist would be eliminated from the Fox singing competition this week alongside two male semifinalists.

Bowersox also plays the guitar and harmonica. She was supposed to perform Tuesday with the nine other semifinalists, but she was hospitalized and unable to take the stage. In a last-minute switcheroo, the 10 male semifinalists performed Tuesday instead of the women.Bowersox's performance of Alanis Morrissette's "Hand in My Pocket" was one of the show's highlights last week.

Warwick wasn't specific on Bowersox's medical malady, only saying it stemmed from a condition that producers were aware of from the beginning.
