Nothing like a bit of good news! Mandy Moore revealed how her beloved dog Jackson helped usher along the arrival of her newborn son, Gus, in an Instagram Story on Wednesday (March 3).

"In the flutter of all things Gus, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that this guy got a clean bill of health," shared the singer-actress over a photo of the sweet pup lying on his side, exposing his shaved belly, as he gazes sweetly into the camera. Moore noted that Jackson's tumor had turned out to be benign, and that he was cancer-free.

"We found out about 3 hours before I went in to labor and I know my relief was what set things in motion," added the This Is Us star. "So much gratitude these days. We love you so much, Jackson!!!"

Moore shared with fans in a mid-February Instagram story that Jackson, 10, had needed emergency surgery "for a mass in his abdomen." She and husband Taylor Goldsmith announced the arrival of their first child on Feb. 23.

"Gus is here. Our sweet boy, August Harrison Goldsmith," she captioned a photo of the infant at the time. "He was punctual and arrived right on his due date, much to the delight of his parents. We were prepared to fall in love in all sorts of brand new ways, but it goes beyond anything we could have ever imagined."

The next day, she revealed the origins of her firstborn's name in another Instagram post. "It was last August when @taylordawesgoldsmith and I found out we were having a boy (it's also Taylor's birth month) and we always loved the name," she captioned a photo of the little boy with a gray blanket that had "August" on it. "So it was settled very early on in our book.
