It's been more than 10 years since singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten shared her fan-favorite album Epic with the world. Now, she wants to celebrate those 10 years with some help from her friends.
On Thursday (March 4), Van Etten announced her upcoming project Epic Ten, an anniversary album where a bevy of very talented guests will reinterpret each of the seven songs off of her 2010 album. Joining her for the special covers album are stars such as Fiona Apple, Courtney Barnett, Shamir, Lucinda Williams, IDLES, St. Panther and Big Red Machine (Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner).
To get fans excited, Van Etten shared Big Red Machine's cover of "A Crime," in which Dessner plugs in the acoustic song, throwing fuzzy guitars and a driving drumbeat into the mix, all to bolster Vernon's signature haunting vocals. “Sharon is one of my favorite songwriters and I've been very lucky to get to collaborate with her many times over the years," Dessner said of the new release. "Recording ‘A Crime’ with Justin ... it felt like coming full circle. It's an honor to be able to pay tribute to Sharon and her incredible songs. We felt like the door should be about to fall off the hinges of this version and I think it sounds like that."
