Super Bowl ads are aiming for some nostalgic film magic in 2021. In a new ad released by Cadillac that will air during the Feb. 7 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Winona Ryder reprises her role as Kim Boggs from the 1990 Tim Burton film Edward Scissorhands.

While Johnny Depp doesn't return to portray the title character, the spot -- which debuted online hours before the game -- reveals that Kim and Edward had a child. "This is a story of a boy that had scissors for hands," Ryder's narration begins as the camera shows a pink house with spiral bushes and a rubber ducky-like piece of topiary reminiscent of what Edward Scissorhands created.

The scene then cuts to Kim making breakfast in the kitchen, yelling, "Edgar! You're going to be late!" Not surprisingly, Edgar -- played by a spot-on Timothee Chalamet -- has inherited not only his father's scissorhands, but also his deathly pallor, tousled dark curls, penchant for black clothing, and sweet demeanor.

Like Edward, Edgar has trouble functioning in the normal world. When trying to yank on chain on a bus to get off at the next stop, he accidentally cuts the cord with his sharp fingers, getting himself banned from public transportation; while trying to catch a football, he punctures and deflates it; and rather than creating elaborately shaped bushes, he cuts up spectacular salads.

To cheer him up, Kim buys the teen a Cadillac LYRIQ, which has a hands-free super cruise feature that allows him to drive without destroying the steering wheel. (No word about a seat belt that his hands won't slice through, though.)

"And Edgar drove off into the sunset," Kim says as the ad ends. "But don't worry: He still makes it home in time for dinner -- occasionally."

Another company that is reviving classic film characters for its Super Bowl ad is Uber Eats, which brought back Mike Myers and Dana Carvey to reprise their Wayne's World characters. A second spot for Uber Eats has Cardi B joining the duo and urging viewers to "eat local!"
