While everyone is talking about music industry award snubs, spare a thought for The Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan’s alternative rockers were one of the standouts in the ‘90s, a decade stacked with standout rock bands.
The Chicago outfit has won two Grammy Awards, but never been nominated for the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, for which they’ve been eligible since 2016, a full quarter century since the release of their debut album Gish.
They'll get their chance. Last week, Corgan and Co. returned with an eleventh studio album CYR, their first double collection since the classic Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, from 1995.
