Megan Thee Stallion was the talk of the town this week, as the “Savage” star made her Saturday Night Live debut -- and made a major political statement. There’s also been a big change-up in the musical guest for this week’s (Oct. 10) episode, but more on that in a bit.

In collaborations news, Travis Scott landed his third No. 1 of the year with help from Young Thug and M.I.A., J Balvin got his very own McDonald’s meal, Bebe Rexha and Doja Cat teamed up for a new bop, and much more!

Megan Thee Stallion made a statement during her SNL performance

Meg served as the musical guest for the Season 46 premiere of Saturday Night Live on Oct. 3, and she made sure to use the massive platform to make a statement. During the performance of her hit "Savage," the screen behind her went dark, gunshots rang out, and giant, bleeding bullet holes appeared. Audio clips from Malcolm X's 1962 speech "Who Taught You to Hate Yourself?" then played.

Travis Scott's 'Franchise' debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100

The rapper’s latest track, which also features superstars Young Thug and M.I.A., flew in at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. As Billboard’s Gary Trust reports, “The track is Scott's fourth total Hot 100 No. 1 and third to debut at the summit in less than a year, marking a new record for the fastest accumulation of three No. 1 entrances by any artist in the Hot 100's history.” Meanwhile, “Franchise” lands Young Thug his second Hot 100 No. 1, while M.I.A. earns her first. Miley Cyrus is returning to the MTV Unplugged stage

MTV announced on Monday (Oct. 5) that the "Mother's Daughter" star will perform in a special, reinvented edition of its beloved MTV Unplugged franchise, MTV Unplugged Presents “Miley Cyrus Backyard Sessions.” Learn more here.

The 2020 MTV EMA nominations were announced

MTV announced the nominations for the 2020 MTV EMA (Europe Music Awards) on Tuesday (Oct. 6), and Lady Gaga is the top nominee! Gaga landed seven nods, including best video, best song and best collaboration, all for “Rain on Me,” her megahit collab with Ariana Grande. (Grande was last year’s leading nominee at the MTV EMAs, with seven nods.) BTS and Justin Bieber were also runners-up to Gaga, with five nods each this year. Travis Scott's "Franchise" (featuring Young Thug and M.I.A.) marked yet another No. 1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this year, and it's one of many, as Billboard's Andrew Unterberger points out. “Pop stars have gotten more and more creative with such direct-to-consumer (D2C) content, with artists like Scott offering as many as 15 different physical configurations of new songs for fans to purchase, allowing for greater first-week impact,” he writes.
