A powerful 7.4 earthquake struck offshore Oaxaca, Mexico on Tuesday (June 23) killing at least five people, according to the Associated Press.

The quake, with an epicenter in the southern Mexico resort of Huatulco, also swayed buildings in Mexico City and sent thousands fleeing into the streets, with 147 aftershocks reported by noon. Other minor damages from the earthquake include broken windows, collapsed walls and power was knocked out in some areas.

Following news of the earthquake, which hit as Mexico continues to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic, artists such as Daddy Yankee, Becky G, Natti Natasha, and J Balvin, among others, took to social media to stand in solidarity with Mexico and offer support.

"This has been a difficult year for the world," Daddy Yankee captioned his Mexican flag post on Instagram. "But we must move forward in faith."

Meanwhile, Becky G said she was in contact with her team to find ways to help out those who were affected by the quake.
