Lizzo and the New York Philharmonic perform during YouTube's "Dear Class of 2020"

Lizzo began YouTube Originals’ “Dear Class of 2020” commencement live stream in rousing fashion on Sunday (June 7), wielding her beloved flute to deliver a twist on the timeless “Pomp and Circumstance.”

“Congratulations to the class of 2020! Now let’s turn it up!,” the “Truth Hurts” singer announced midway through the performance, during which floating heads of the New York Philharmonic accompanied her on the live stream. Along with a trap beat being added to the graduation standard, photos of graduates in face masks, and participating in Black Lives Matter protests, hinted at the unique time in which the class of 2020 is experiencing this achievement.

Following Lizzo’s performance, “Dear Class of 2020” continued with messages from Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake and The Simpsons, among others. More pop stars are expected to join Lizzo in performing for new grads.
