Juice WRLD

This week fused the powers of Travis Scott and Kid Cudi for The Scotts' first joint single and brought country-crossover-hip-hop fans the Sam Hunt-assisted remix of Breland's "My Truck" that may contain fragments of Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" DNA but has its own legs.

And in a bittersweet moment, Juice WRLD's fans heard his voice again in the posthumous single "Righteous," an unflinching narrative about his anxiety that simultaneously gloats his riches and summons the demons that ultimately contributed to his untimely death on Dec. 8 at just 21 years old.

On a lighter note, Kali Uchis' latest four-song EP To Feel Alive comes with a shimmering delivery (in which she wears her singer, songwriter and producer hats) that breaks her bonds from society's expectations of sex, the music industry's expectations of genre and a relationship's expectations of ending on good terms. Similarly, Charli XCX brings out her "Claws" for a futuristic electro-pop bop that takes listeners on a whirlwind ride of a night out, with its cinematic lines such as "We're so high, roller-coaster ride/ Diamond bright, kiss me right, yeah."
