Wreckless Eric revealed that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

"We got tested by some miracle and the results came in. I've got it," the singer-songwriter, best known for his 1977 single "Whole Wide World," led on a Facebook update Sunday morning (April 19).

"I haven’t actually been very well in the past three or four weeks," he wrote in a lengthy post on his blog about his coronavirus experience. "Chest and rib pains, cough, low level fever, intermittant headaches - I was pretty sure it must be the virus though I was told the only way I could get confirmation of this was by presenting myself at the emergency room, death’s door, sick to the point of dying, ready to be hospitalised… No f---ing thank you."

Eric explained that he was operating "in a somewhat reduced capacity" in which he would be out of breath going for a walk, or would spend a day lying on the sofa until bedtime.

When he found out that he and his wife, Amy Rigby, now qualified for a test in Albany, N.Y., due to age (he's 65), they booked appointments.

Of the actual COVID-19 test, he wrote: "Basically they shove a big Q tip rather a long way up your nose and waggle it about quite a lot."

Though Eric tested positive, his wife's test came back negative, despite experiencing symptoms associated with the virus, including a loss of smell for 10 days.

"I felt deeply disturbed when I got the news and quite emotional," he admitted. "If I’m honest about this I’m vaguely / acutely worried in the back of my mind that I might suddenly go downhill and die, but I find getting older is a business of constantly facing up to one’s own mortality. A growing list of friends that are no longer with us appears to be developing and it’s becoming clear to me that one day I’ll be on it."

Currently, however, he says he's "ok. I'm more concerned about people who haven’t got anybody, people who are going through this alone."
