Michael Stipe Performs A New Song: "No Time For Love Like Now"

Michael Stipe is, like the rest of us, stuck at home. But he’s using the downtime to work on new music.

On Tuesday night, the former R.E.M. frontman appeared on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show for a performance of “No Time for Love Like Now,” a collaboration with The National’s Aaron Dessner for their project Big Red Machine.

Wearing a green sweater in a green room, Stipe showed his true colors by donning a Late Show cap.

Stipe shared a demo of the mellow song late last month, and now it’s apparently fully-formed.

R.E.M.'s music is hip again, and we have coronavirus to thank for it. The alternative rock legends 1987 classic "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" re-entered LyricFind's U.S. ranking at No. 4 last month. Stipe recently revisited the song and shared some advice for the rest of us to follow in these strange times. "I'm a former pop star... got to the CDC, go to trusted news sources," he said. "Don't trust social media to tell you what is or is not scary or contagious or weird."
