Tame Impala’s psychedelic pop smash “The Less I Know The Better” was better than any other song in the 2010s, a poll of triple j listeners has found.

The fresher-than-a-daisy single ruled the network’s Hottest 100 of the Decade countdown, beating out tunes by Gotye, Arctic Monkeys, Flume, Angus & Julia Stone and others.

“The Less I Know The Better” appeared on Tame Impala’s 2015 album Currents, a set which went top 5 on both sides of the Atlantic, bowed at No. 1 in Australia, and bagged a string of awards, include a BRIT for best international group.

"It's a song that has hung around for long enough," Tame Impala maestro Kevin Parker told the publicly-funded station after his big win on Saturday. "I think it has aged well."

Also aging well was Gotye’s Billboard Hot 100-leader “Somebody That I Used to Know” (at No. 2) and Arctic Monkeys’ “Do I Wanna Know?” (No. 3).

"I can't describe how much of a big thing that is to me," Parker admitted.

Aussie EDM star Flume had the most appearances in the countdown, dropping in with four original songs, two remixes and a collab with Chet Faker (now Nick Murphy), while Kanye West had the second most appearances, with five works.

Of the 100 recordings, 49 were by Australian artists, including eight of the top 10, while 2012 was the “hottest” year with 20 songs.

“It’s hard to deny that one of the main players who shaped the sound of the decade is our own Kevin Parker,” comments triple j’s Music Director, Nick Findlay. “The Less I Know The Better” is an “incredibly deserved No. 1 for the Hottest 100 of the 2010s,” he continues, “and we’re sure to see him continue to shape the sound of the decade to come.”

More than 1.8 million votes were cast for the poll, with listeners aged 18-24 accounting for just under half the total.
