Valentine's Day is just days away, and Jumaane Smith knows there's nothing better than love (and love songs).

"Musicians over the years have written about every part of love imaginable, it’s ins and outs, new love, old love, the feeling you get looking into your partner’s eyes, or when you kiss, that scent that reminds you of them, that photo or song," the trumpeter told Billboard of his favorite subject. "When I’m at a loss for words, I look to songs to help tell my story because they have the ability to set the mood and the power to express things in ways deeper than the words alone."

With that being said, Smith gave Billboard his favorite romantic tunes in honor of the upcoming holiday, 15 tracks from timeless artists who give us nostalgia for that old-school type of love. You could call Smith a pro in that type of devotion, as he recently released his latest album, When You're Smiling, and chose his and Nancy Harms' cover of "I've Got You Under My Skin" for his playlist.

"This song written by Cole Porter to me is all about those precious moments leading up to that first kiss, the passion and fear of it not working out but knowing that there is no way you can resist the temptation to go for it anyway," he explained. "For this song I wanted to give it the vibe of a steamy blossoming courtship that turns into a passionate love affair."

Among the other tunes on the lovestruck list include Nat King Cole's "The Very Thought of You," Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong's "Dream a Little Dream of Me," Nina Simone's "My Baby Cares Just for Me," Sam Cooke's "You Send Me" and Stevie Wonder's "As."

"Doesn’t get better than Stevie!" Smith said of Wonder's song. "He has written so many of the greatest songs of the 20th century. 'As,' the story of everlasting love, has been one of my favorites since I first heard it as a kid. Still to this day, every time I hear this song, it fills me with love and joy."
