On Monday night’s (Nov. 18) emotional episode of Dancing With the Stars, James Van Der Beek was sent home just one week before the finale, and after his reveal earlier in the episode that his wife Kimberly had suffered a miscarriage over the weekend.

Ally Brooke, who was saved by the judges after being place in the bottom two with Van Der Beek, offered to surrender her spot to him, which the competition doesn’t allow and the actor declined.

"It’s hard to celebrate being in the finals with that on me," she told Access after the show. "I just have to make him proud and the judges proud they saved me and in a way do this for him. I’m sure its best for him to be with his family right now but I don’t know I’m sad."

"I felt like it was no right for me to be there over him. He was like, 'No, Ally, I can't accept,'" she continued. "Everyone around me and Sasha [Farber] is telling me to celebrate and take in that I deserve to be here and we can't control other factors."

The tough elimination came a day after Ally wowed judges with a Viennese waltz to Ed Sheeran's "Perfect."
