Noah Cyrus' reflective "July," released back in the month it was named after, showcased the 19-year-old's mature, folksy voice her fans love her for. In a new remix released on Friday (Nov. 8), she tapped the king of stirring vocals himself, Leon Bridges.

The song's already-chilling harmonies are amplified by Bridges' honeyed melodies, as the lyrics contemplate the vicious cycle of a toxic relationship. "You know I, I'm afraid of change/ Guess that's why we stay the same," Cyrus croons in the poignantly self-aware pre-chorus, while Bridges twists his hook slightly to reflect a male perspective.

"So tell me to leave, I'll pack my bags, get on the road/ Find someone who gives you all of the things I couldn't, I know/ 'Cause I keep fighting all the ways I let you down so I can stay," he sings.

“It’s such an honor to have Leon Bridges’ heart and voice on 'July.'” Noah said in a press statement. “I’ve been a fan of his for years, and to have an artist as credible as him, who is so artistically talented, who clearly loves music and puts his heart and soul into everything he does, is true a gift. I hope you all enjoy listening to this version, as much as we enjoyed making it.”

The accompanying Cyrus-directed video has a similar aesthetic to the original, but this time animated. The cartoon version of the singers lug their belongings in an open field, tears streaming.
