Selena Gomez is taking on a sizeable role in her next film: She’s playing Betsy the giraffe in Dolittle, which will hit theaters on Jan. 17.

In the first official trailer for the film, we don't hear Gomez’s voice, but we see her giraffe trot along the grass and later save a little boy on a ship as one of the many heroic animals featured in the film. She will be joined by Tom Holland (Jip the dog), Rami Malek (Chee-Chee the gorilla), Octavia Spencer (Dab-Dab the duck), Kumail Nanjiani (Plimpton the ostrich), John Cena (Yoshi the polar bear), Emma Thompson (Polynesia the parrot) and Craig Robinson (Fleming the mouse), according to Robert Downey Jr.’s Instagram post.

The film -- the latest retelling of the story that started with 1920's The Story of Doctor Dolittle -- follows Downey’s main character, Dr. John Dolittle, and his incredible ability to speak to animals. The adventure takes him and his flock by land and sea as the motley crew take on impending peril, causing Malek’s gorilla to be especially distraught in a gut-wrenching moment.

“It’s okay to be scared,” Dr. Dolittle reassures him in the clip to the soothing tune of a reworked version of Louis Armstrong's signature song, “What a Wonderful World.”
