Things always seem to get silly when Ed Sheeran is involved.

That was the case during the second night of Blind Auditions of The Voice on Tuesday (Sept. 24), when contestant Max Boyle performed “Wayfaring Stranger,” a song tweaked by Sheeran from an old-school folk tune recorded by Johnny Cash and others.

Hailing from Toledo, Ohio, the 23-year-old singer’s sweet vocals caught the ears of John Legend, who turned first. Then Kelly Clarkson

But unbeknownst to the Idol alum, she got outfoxed by her fellow coach.

“I’m so sorry,” Legend yelled to Clarkson after he blocked her. “You’re not sorry,” she retorted.

Yup, he’s not sorry.

“I had a feeling Kelly would be my biggest competition for you,” Legend told the Voice hopeful. "You showed us how much you can command the stage without any other accompaniment, which is amazing. It was just a daring performance. Welcome to Team Legend.”

Boyle advances. But for Clarkson, he's the “rock star” (her words) that got away. Watch below.
