A new Boards of Canada tune is as rare as hen’s teeth, or rocking horse poop.

Well, something has been lifted from the BoC vault for the very first time, so count your blessings, buy a lottery ticket, do what you have to do.

The enigmatic Scottish electronic music duo, brothers Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin, make a welcome return of sorts with “XYZ,” a previously-unreleased tune from their Peel Session of July 1998, which appears on a new Warp Records 30th anniversary package, WXAXRXP Sessions.

“XYX” is classic BoC, left on a harddrive somewhere for 21 years. It’s both cinematic and slightly menacing, with a big payoff thanks to some nasty broken beats which appear in the second half.

The boxed set gathers ten sessions cut for radio from across the history of the iconic British label, from Peel sessions in the early days right up to the WXAXRXP x NTS weekend in August, and should be a popular Christmas wishlist item for Warp anoraks.

BoC will be represented with their July 1998 set alongside journeys by Warp faves Aphex Twin (1995), Bibio (2019), Flying Lotus 'Infinitum' (2010), Mount Kimbie (2019), LFO (1990) and others.

The influential, minimal electronic act’s last full-length release was 2013’s Tomorrow’s Harvest, an album that impacted the U.K. top 10, peaking at No. 7.

In celebration of Warp Records’ milestone anniversary, the Scots contributed a new two-hour mix, Societas x Tape, reportedly contained as-yet unreleased BoC music.

The new Warp retrospective will be issued Nov. 14 as a deluxe box set or as individual 12”-vinyl pressings at Bleep.com, and in digital formats.
