Drake Talks 'Poetic' Toronto Raptors NBA Finals Win, Celebs React

Toronto Raptors ambassador Drake talked to the media at Jurassic Park after the team’s victory over the Golden State Warriors, calling their first-time NBA Finals win "poetic" -- the sport was invented by Canadian James Naismith -- but fellow athletes, franchises, comedians, musicians and other celebs took to social media to say congratulations.

Sarah McLachlan, who sang the Canadian national anthem at the game, tweeted “Holy s$@# we won!!!! Amazing game! XoS.”

Jann Arden wrote: “Congrats to a team that brought all of Canada together! It felt so good;” k.d. lang posted a bunch of Canadian flags, basketballs and a “congrats Raptors;” and Ron Sexsmith said “huge Congrats to The Raptors! That game was way too stressful for me but well worth it.”

Canadian comedian/actor Eugene Levy added, “So PROUD of our RAPTORS!!! NBA CHAMPS!! OOOOOh Canada!! Time to CELEBRATE!!!” while American comedian W. Kamau Bell had the best tweet of all: “I can't even be a little mad. It's been a long time coming. And you represent the NBA well. Also, I can't wait for the tweets when Trump finds out The United States ‘lost’ the NBA championship to Canada.”

One-time Raptor Damon Stoudamire, who was the team’s first draft pick and played for the team from 1995-98, said, “Congrats to the champs.” But other pro players also tuned in.

Toronto Blue Jays’ Matt Shoemaker tweeted “Wow wow wow wow! The boys did it! Congrats guys! Way to bring that championship home to Toronto. Let’s go” and Toronto Maple Leafs’ Zach Hyman simply expressed “huge congrats to the Raptors. This is awesome #WeTheNorth.”

Now-retired Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant tweeted a simple “Congrats.” Larry King gave a “Congrats to the Toronto Raptors on a huge win! This is their 1st NBA title in history.” Property Brothers’ Drew Scott was very Canadian: “What an incredible, intense game for both teams!!” he wrote. “Congrats Raptors. Way to go CANADA." From Canada's west coast, the Vancouver Canucks chimed in with a "congrats," adding "you made a whole nation proud."
