Madonna’s new album Madame X is out any day now. We’ve heard a bunch of songs from it, including singles “Medellín,” “I Rise,” “Crave,” and “Future.”  And overnight, the Queen of Pop shared the music video for another new number, “Dark Ballet.”

Shot by award-winning director Emmanuel Adjei, the clip features Mykki Blanco in character as Joan of Arc, an all-time favorite of Madonna.

“She fought the English and she won, still the French were not happy. Still they judged her,” Madonna says in a statement accompanying the new clip. “They said she was a man, they said she was a lesbian, they said she was a witch, and, in the end, they burned her at the stake, and she feared nothing. I admire that.”

It’s a visual, dark treat, filled with sweeping cinematography, images of ancient European structures and religious iconography.

Madame X is due out next Friday (June 14). Watch the video for “Dark Ballet” below.
