In honor of Prince's upcoming album Originals, Tidal announced on Wednesday (May 29) that it is hosting a series of listening events across the globe for its members.

Album release celebrations will take place in the United States as well as Spain, Poland, Brazil and more. Members of the streaming service will have the chance to attend the Los Angeles event hosted by Jay-Z on June 6. To learn more and pre-save the album, head to

The 15-track album features 14 previously unreleased recordings pulled directly from the historic archive of Prince’s music, selected collaboratively by Jay-Z and Troy Carter, on behalf of The Prince Estate. This is Tidal's first exclusive new release since Jay-Z and Beyoncé's joint release as The CartersEverything Is Love, last year.

“Prince led the way, for artistic freedom, for ownership. He’s one of the bravest people I can think of in the industry. He trusted us, not just me, but TIDAL, to continue his fight,” said Jay-Z in a press statement. “Trying to help further that legacy through his music is both an honor we couldn’t pass up as an organization dedicated to empowering artists. This gives his true fans that peak behind the curtain.”

The origins of this news go back to 2016, when Prince's label NPG Records and publishing arm NPG Music Publishing sued Roc Nation for allegedly committing copyright infringement by continuing to make the late icon's back catalog available for streaming on Tidal. That decision appeared to stem from a simple misunderstanding: Earlier that year, before Prince's death, the two entities agreed to exclusively stream the Purple One's HITnRUN albums, which Tidal interpreted to encompass his whole body of work.

In 2018, the Prince Estate revealed a partnership with Jay-Z and Tidal to release an album of previously unreleased tracks in 2019, with Jay-Z working directly with the estate on song selection. Under that arrangement this new LP -- which would become Originals -- would stream for two weeks before its distribution on physical formats.
