Justin Bieber Jokingly Challenges Shawn Mendes to Hockey Match For 'Prince of Pop' Title

The pop star wants to settle the debate on the ice after a recent cover story of Mendes by 'The Guardian.'

All hail the prince(s) of pop! On Monday (April 8), Justin Bieber took to Instagram to jokingly challenge The Guardian’s declaration that fellow Canadian star Shawn Mendes is the new "Prince of Pop."

Commenting on Mendes’ post of the magazine’s cover, Bieber wrote, “Hmm...Gonna have to break a few more records to dethrone my title there bud.”

To settle the pop rivalry, Bieber playfully challenged the fellow Canadian to a hockey match, writing, “(Canadian voice)..but if you want we can play hockey for it but i heard your [sic] a real bender on the ice we could just drop the buckets and tilt for it.”

While some fans began taking sides in the comments, the exchange appeared to be all in good fun for the two Canadian heartthrobs, with Bieber clarifying his comment was a “playful joke” and Mendes replying back, “@justinbieber LOL any time any day you just let me know!!!!!!”
