Former American Idol contestants Cade Foehner and Gabby Barrett are engaged. The happy couple announced the news on Friday (March 22) in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

Foehner says he popped the question during a trip to L.A. that found the Idol finalists back where they first met.

“The hotel we were staying at while we were there was the same one me and Cade met and hung out in for the first time during Idol,” Barrett told the outlet. “So I told Cade we have to go back and check out the room, and he agreed.”

The two musicians fell for each other while competing in season 16 of American Idol, where Barrett finished third behind fellow couple Maddy Poppe and Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Foehner came in fourth.

According to Barrett, Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie are three people at the top of the couple's invite list for the big day.

“The judges are like family to us,” Barrett told PEOPLE.Idol was the very beginning of our love story and we would love for all of our family to be there.”
