Listen to Dido's Introspective #TBT Mixtape, The Soundtrack to Her Glittering Life

Simon Emmett

Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard's series that showcases artists' very own throwback-themed playlists exclusive to Billboard's Spotify account. The curated set features the artists' favorite tracks from their youth and childhood.

This week's spin comes from Dido. Long before the "British invasion" stories of Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Ellie Goulding, the U.K. songbird and British crossover talent cemented her status as one of music's brightest young talents on a truly international level with the release of her smash breakthrough No Angel, released twenty years ago this June. The pop darling's debut set featured a bevy of hits "Thank You" "White Flag" and "Here With Me," as well as the ubiquitous Eminem-assisted early-aughts classic "Stan."

The troubadour is still riding high two decades on, following the release of her latest LP Still On My Mind -- her first full length set in five years -- last week (Mar. 8) via BMG. The eclectic set fuses the iconic songwriter's love of hip-hop and electronic music, with her signature folk roots.

Written and recorded in her native England, the set is a collaboration with longtime production and songwriting partner-in-bops Rollo (of British electronic act Faithless). “I wanted to capture the feeling I still get from listening to music, just that rush like you don’t need anything more than this," she says of the immersive record.

To fete her comeback to the lime light, Dido crafted this week's #TBT Mixtape as a sampling of her "life soundtrack," and featuring introspective cuts from Carole King, Laura Branigan, and Carly Simon, plus hits from Mary J. Blige, Madonna, Sade, Alanis Morissette and more.

"These are all songs and artists that have inspired me, helped me along the way, moved me to tears or made me dance and smile and love," Dido tells Billboard. "All just brilliant songs and artists and a lot of the soundtrack to my life."
