The Green Book original soundtrack exceeded 1 million global streams, according to its label Milan Records, the highest-streamed jazz soundtrack in the label's history. The streams have doubled from around 10,000 per day in January 2019 to nearly 20,000 per day as the film picked up several awards at the Golden Globes and one at the Critics Choice Awards.
"It’s been a hugely rewarding process to work on the soundtrack album with Kris Bowers and his team, Manish Raval, Tom Wolfe and Paul Katz," the label said in a statement to Billboard. "Kris’ score is remarkable and stands proudly as the work of a born virtuoso. It also has had no trouble connecting with music streaming audiences, contrary to conventional wisdom surrounding the marriage of jazz and music streaming."
The soundtrack included music by Don Shirley in addition to an original score composed by Kris Bowers. The film is nominated for five awards at the Academy Awards on Feb. 24, including Viggo Mortensen for best actor, Mahershala Ali (who plays Shirley) for best supporting actor and Nick Vallelonga, Brian Currie and Peter Farrelly for best original screenplay.
