Back in 2015, West announced that he planned on running for president in 2020 during his acceptance speech at the VMAs. "I don't know what I finna lose after this. It don't matter, though; It's not about me. It's about ideas. New ideas. People with ideas. People who believe in truth," West said. "And yes, as you probably could've guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president."

However, after avidly supporting Donald Trump, West has pushed his plans back to after Trump's run if he gets reelected. In August 2018, he reaffirmed his plans. "If I decide to do it, it will be done," he promised in a new hour-long interview with Chicago's Power 92 radio station. "I'm not gonna try."
