John Legend & Chrissy Teigen Talk R. Kelly Doc, Kanye West's Twitter Rants & More on 'WWHL': Watch
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen visited Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live on Thursday night (Jan. 17) and, per usual on the WWHL set, didn't hold anything back. The beloved Hollywood couple talked Surviving R. Kelly, Kanye West's Twitter rants, and even revealed their big fight on Kanye and Kim Kardashian’s wedding day.
When a fan asked Legend, who appeared in the Surviving R. Kelly documentary, his thoughts on his fellow artists who remained silent about the controversy, the singer opted to voice his reasons for taking part instead of calling out his peers. In addition to his friendship with the doc's director, Dream Hampton, Legend has friends who were part of the Mute R. Kelly movement and wanted to use his platform to support those affected by rape and abuse.
“I knew that as a celebrity that I could lend my voice to something that could highlight these young people who have been hurt and give them a voice and make sure they’re heard,” he said.
Another fan later asked the couple what they thought of West’s infamous Twitter rants that result in Kim’s subsequent “damage control.” Legend said that he shakes his head when he sees Ye’s tweets.
“Just like a lot of the people that love Kanye and love his music, you’re like, ‘I don’t agree with a lot of the things he says,” Legend said. “It’s weird cause I get asked about it all the time, and I can’t be accountable for what he’s gonna say.”
Teigen then added that as a wife, she understands why Kim defends her husband. “All you wanna do is protect the person that you love and be able to defend them at all costs,” she said. “It really is tough because we all have our separate identities and we believe different things and as much as you love somebody they’re gonna eff up sometimes and they’re gonna say weird things.”
Ironically, Kim and Kanye's 2014 wedding was where Teigen and Legend had perhaps their biggest argument to date -- and naturally, Cohen's fans couldn't resist asking about that too. While Legend said he didn’t even know what the fight was about, Teigen admitted with a laugh, “It was a major blowout to the point where every time I see them I feel like apologizing for it."
