Yearwood recorded the project in just four days with a 55-piece orchestra at Capitol Records' vaunted studios in Hollywood, where Sinatra cut many of his most famous tunes. Yearwood worked with arranger Vincent Mendoza and engineer Al Schmitt, singing into Sinatra’s vintage microphone.
“It was a dream come true,” she says.
Yearwood hosts the Emmy-winning Trisha's Southern Kitchen on the Food Network and has penned three best-selling cookbooks as well as issued a line of cookware and food products, so partnering with Williams Sonoma to give fans an early taste of her new music seems like a natural move for the three-time Grammy winner.
“Working with Williams Sonoma has been the right relationship from the start,” she says. “Long before we had any Trisha Yearwood product in stores with them, we did book signings for all three book releases, and it just felt like home. Everyone who knows me knows that I have long been a fan and avid shopper with Williams Sonoma, so it just all made sense.”
Let’s Be Frank will be available on CD, vinyl and digital. “Williams Sonoma will be playing the album in store, and you'll see plenty of signage in the store,” Yearwood says. “I'm excited to see it come together.”
In addition to such Sinatra classics as “Come Fly with Me” and “One for My Baby (And One More for the Road),” the album includes an original song Yearwood penned with husband Garth Brooks titled “For the Last Time.” Yearwood will celebrate the release on Jan. 8 at the Grammy Museum when Was and Schmitt join her for a discussion on the making of the album followed by a performance. On Feb. 14, she’ll perform live from the Rainbow Room for a special Valentine’s Day event.
Let’s Be Frank is Yearwood’s first full-length solo record since 2007’s Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love, but Yearwood says the drought is over. “Fans who have been waiting for new Trisha music will hopefully like this,” she says of the Sinatra tribute, “but they won't have long to wait for a regular studio album. I've been working on both albums this year. More new music [is coming] this fall. I'm making 2019 my year!”
