Vevo DSCVR Features Astrid S & AJ Mitchell as Latest 2019 Artists To Watch: Exclusive
On Wednesday (Dec. 5), Vevo DSCVR released the latest performances from its 2019 Artists To Watch series with two of pop music’s most promising young artists, Astrid S and AJ Mitchell.
Astrid S stepped into the spotlight at an early age in her native Norway. The 22-year old artist successfully converted a television singing competition spot as a teenager into a celebrated career as a singer-songwriter, most recently receiving the prestigious Årets Spellemann (“Artist of the Year”) award at the Spellemannprisen (aka Norway's Grammys) ceremony in February.
Though her first appearance in mainstream American pop music came as a featured singer on Shawn Mendes’ “Air” in 2015, Astrid S was quick to establish her own sound. Her self-titled debut EP the following year set the bar high with an alluring set of tunes that boasted her impressively versatile voice over infectious electro-pop beats, and she continues to exceed those expectations in 2018 with her recently released single “Emotion.”
In a prepared statement, Vevo Senior Manager of Music and Talent Carl Young tells Billboard, “Astrid S is leading the next wave with her raw, powerful vocal talent.”

Los Angeles-based singer AJ Mitchell has literally developed as a musician in front of a million people. As a familiar Instagram personality for several years, the 17-year old Mitchell has been able to document his progress as he’s gone on to cover the likes of Bruno Mars and The Beatles as well as workshop original compositions.
Originally hailing from Bellville, Ill., Mitchell’s pop sound combines the breezy composure of Los Angeles with the heavy-hearted sincerity of the Midwest. His debut Epic Records EP, July's Hopeful, delivered on his creative potential with a collection of sharp tracks that showcased his dynamic abilities and easygoing, inviting personality.
“AJ Mitchell is set for big things,” Vevo Director of Music and Talent David McTiernan says. “To be so young and already have such a strong sense of his musical identity made him a standout pick for our list.”
