Zayn arrives at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 28, 2018 in New York City.

Zayn shocked fans worldwide in 2015 when he split from the mega-hit One Direction. He appears on the cover of December's British Vogue, where he revealed some intimate--and heartbreaking--details about his relationship with Harry, Louis, Niall and Liam.

"I ain't spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you," he revealed. "That's just the way it is. There's things that happen and things that were said after I left... Snide things. Small things that I would never have expected."

Though he didn't get into specifics about the "snide things," he talked about how he didn't make any friends in general while in the band. "I have always been a bit like that, though – always a bit of an island. I don't like to confer with too many people."

Being a teenager during the band's whirlwind "boom, boom, boom" success also had an affect on his mental health and relationship with the boys. "I guess that kind of progression to any mind – but especially when you're 17, 18 - it kind of affects you a little bit," he noted. "People take it different ways – especially when there are five different personalities. The relationships had broken apart."
