Basement Premieres Infectious 'Be Here Now' Ahead Of Major Label Debut LP: Exclusive

Mitchell Wojcik

Basement's latest single “Be Here Now” is premiering exclusively on Billboard today (Oct. 2) ahead of their LP release next week.

There’s something familiar and deeply satisfying about Basement. The English five-piece strikes a cozy balance between the grunge textures that used to rule alternative radio and classic emo influences. They’ve never been shy about naming Jimmy Eat World as a core inspiration, and indeed, there’s a yearning openness to their music that echoes the esteemed Arizona band from half a world away.

These touchstones are evident across Basement’s forthcoming LP Beside Myself, due out Oct. 12 on Fueled By Ramen. Their fourth LP is their first for the Atlantic imprint (after a slew of releases on Run For Cover Records) and frankly, it’s as good a time as any to get acquainted with the Ipswich natives.

“’Be Here Now’ is about how hard I find it to feel content with what I’m doing, when I’m doing it,” vocalist Andrew Fisher says of the earnest, melodic rocker. “I over-romanticize the past and the future, remembering what has been and looking forward to what will be, in a completely irrational and unfair way. I struggle to enjoy what I’m currently doing because I’m comparing it to a time in my past when I was ‘truly’ happy, or thinking about being somewhere else in the future when I believe I will be way happier than now.”

Well, focus your attention on the present and give “Be Here Now” a spin below. Beside Myself’s pre-order and Basement’s upcoming tour dates are available here.
