It’s been more than a quarter century since the last Chic album hit the racks. Nile Rodgers and Co. break the drought with It’s About Time, the first album in a two-part collection which drops today.

For Time, the multiple Grammy-winning dance music legend secured the services of an impressive artist lineup, from Lady Gaga to Elton John, Hailee Steinfeld, Stefflon Don, Emeli Sande, Craig David, Anderson .Paak, Vic Mensa, and more.

“This is the most self-indulgent album I’ve ever done in my life,” the 66-year-old guitarist, composer, producer and cancer survivor recently told Billboard. “I don’t normally make records like this because I don’t have the power to say ‘this is how it’s gonna go and I’m gonna tell this really big story.’ So now that I do, I can do it my way and this is happening my way exactly. And I just hope people get it and like it and understand it. It’s a geeky record, and a very idealistic record.”

Over a career spanning more than 40 years, Rodgers has been sold 500 million albums and 75 million singles worldwide, both as a member of Chic and as a producer for albums by such heavyweights as David Bowie, Madonna, Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, Duran Duran, INXS and more, according to EMI. The hitmaking disco pioneer took out a hattrick of Grammys in 2014 for his work on Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2016 and, last year, received the Award For Musical Excellence at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

The second part of Time is tentatively due next February. It’s the followup to 1992’s Chic-ism. Stream the new album below.
